Cinco de Mayo

So, here is  the thing about Cinco de Mayo, it makes me laugh, because a) most Gringos know nothing about it and there are a ton of misconceptions.  It is funnier to me, because the Mexican Army won the battle (the first battle of Puebla) they continued to fight for control of Puebla for over a year and finally the Mexican Army lost the War (wait for it) to the French!  That is how Mexico got stuck with Emperor Maximilian.

Anyway, it has become a day of Celebration and recognition of the tenacity of the Mexican People and their culture, so I think it’s great, but it still makes me laugh!

By the way, I lived in Puebla for awhile and got to experience Cinco de Mayo there.   If you have the chance, it was a GREAT party.

If you have thoughts, feel free to post them below.

ha, ha, ha. I agree. That’s why I don’t go around wishing people a happy Cinco de Mayo. They didn’t even use to celebrate it in Mexico–except down in Puebla–until the gringos started celebrating it (as an excuse to push chips and salsa on people.) Makes me laugh too, and I’m from Mexico.
